In looking at Clive Armitage's boat,"PEDAL'WA", it seems to hold more true to the often discussed view that longer is better for speed. Clive uses 2-ama's for stability at @ 10 ft long each. Looking at the prvious picture of the red and blue floats, when I rode on the wavebike 4 years ago, I remember how much faster the craft was when I pulled the outriggers in.
