Album Info:

In 1978, Per Kraft came to Rockville, MD from Sweden, as a foreign exchange student. Per, a skateboarder and avid punk rock listener, eventually found a kindred soul in another punk skater, Pete Murray. This photo was taken on Pete's quarterpipe in the driveway of his house, not long before Per's visit with us would end. Per eventually returned to Sweden and Pete ended up as the lead guitarist for a band called Marginal Man.

  • Great photo! I love the ramp. It reminds me of some of the shaky ramps we used to build and skate.

  • For those who care... Per has now found his photograph here on the Internet, and has checked in from Sweden, where he is an architect. Although the transitions of this ramp were nowhere near the accurately drawn radii of today's ramps, at the time, we felt this little 1/4 pipe was quite nice. It had wheels to assist moving it in and out of Pete's garage, and the top of the ramp had interchangeable features. In this photo, the ramp has a deck and a little half-dowel coping, but that could be unbolted, removed and replaced with an extra-vert feature, adding about 18" of vert to the top. It was lag-bolt construction and, for the time, quite well-engineered by Pete.
