Album Info:
The 1950 Houston Buffs did - for part of the season, anyway. Once it became clear to Buffs President Allen Russell that his '50 Buffs were most probably going to finish last, he swung into action as a promoter of stylish baseball. Russell decked out the Buffs in baggy shorts that were little more than regular flannel pants that had been cut off. Ostensibly, the move was made to cool the Buffs off to the heat of Houston's torrid summers. Of course, what the '50 Buffs really needed was the heat of more talent, but that was not forthcoming from the Cardinals this fatal season. The strawberry rewards from sliding, and the appetites of Houston mosquitoes for "Buffalo Wings" soon enough forced Russell to back off the Buffs-In-Shorts promotion. The Buffs again put on their long pants and continued their march to the 1950 Texas League cellar. - The model in the photo is Jerry Witte, one of the few talented players on the roster of the '50 Buffs.
