Album Info:

Lefty Howie Pollet joined the Buffs late in 1939 after registering a rookie record of 14-5 with a 2.37 ERA for New Iberia of the Evangeline League. Pollet went a late season 1-1 for the '39 Buffs and then came back to go 20-7 with a 2.88 ERA for the 1940 Texas League champion Buffs. For an encore, Pollet followed up with a 20-3, 1.16 ERA record for the 1941 Buffs and then went 5-2 for the '41 Cardinals. Pollet stayed with the Cardinals to help them win National League pennants in 1942, 1943, and 1946. The Cards also were World Series champions in 1942 and 1946. Pollet missed out on the 1944 Cardinal World Series win over the St. Louis Browns because of military service (1944-45), but he paced the 1946 Cardinal champions by posting a 21-10, 2.10 ERA, record. Pollet had one more 20-win season in 1949 when he went 20-9, 2.77 ERA, for the Cardinals. For his 14-season big league career with the Cardinals, Pirates, Cubs and White Sox, ex-Buff Howie Pollet recorded 131 wins against 116 losses. After his career, Pollet lived out the rest of his life in his adopted home town of Houston.
